Capella University is an accredited, online opportunity for higher education. It offers bachelor degree programs in business and information technology, along with graduate programs in business, information technology, education, human services, and psychology. Within those programs, there are 82 graduate and undergraduate specializations and 16 certificate programs. There are currently more than 17,900 students from all 50 states and 56 countries.
An adjunct faculty member, Sara Orem, PhD, has co-authored a new book titled Appreciative Coaching: A Positive Process for Change. Co-authors are Jacqueline Binkert, PhD, and Ann Clancy, PhD and Appreciative Coaching has been published by Jossey-Bass.
Apparently recent psychology and organizational developments show people and organizations do best when focused on human ideals, achievements, and best practices. Appreciative Coaching uses tools such as positive questions and mindfulness, to show individual strength and effect change.
Appreciative Coaching discusses 4 stages: Discovery, Dream, Design and Destiny. They give people an appreciative and empowering view of themselves and their future. It is a new application of appreciative inquiry. The book is mainly written for coaches of managers and executives and people who can influence change in their organization.
Sara Orem is a faculty member and coach in Capella University’s School of Business and Technology. She also is the principal of her own coaching firm. She has presented programs in Appreciative Inquiry at the National Organization Development Network, and International Coach Federation conferences. She currently resides in Oakland, California.
Jacqueline Binkert is an executive coach specializing in working with leaders and teams during times of change.
Ann Clancy is president of Clancy Consultants. She has worked with community organizations, large corporations, and federal agencies.
